Opal A. Benton

Opal A. Longerbeam Benton, 80, of 1485 Grand Ave., Marion, died Monday, December 31, 2007 in St. Luke's Hospital Cedar Rapids, of complications from a fall. Funeral services, 3:00 p.m., Monday (January 7, 2008) in Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices Mount Vernon Chapel by Celebrant Mary Morgan. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time Monday in the chapel. Burial Lisbon Cemetery. Surviving Opal is her son Mark Benton of Cedar Rapids. Opal was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, a brother Judd Longerbeam, and a sister Darlene Urbanek. Opal was born March 18, 1927 in Lisbon, the daughter of Juddson and Emma Longerbeam. She was educated in the Lisbon Schools, and married Ronald Benton. She and Ronald first lived in Waubeek on the Benton family farm, and moved to Lisbon and then to Cedar Rapids.   2. Dear Clyde and Family, Duane and I both are very sad to learn of Bev’s passing. She was a wonderful friend and employee of Cornell College. I enjoyed working with Bev so much when I was president of the alumni board. Her passing is a big loss to the Cornell alums. We are so happy Clyde that you came into her life in the past few years.
