Alberta Reid

Alberta Catherine Reid, 75 of 242 Johnson Avenue, N.W., Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mechancisville, died Friday May 2, 2008, in Evergreen Estate III, Cedar Rapids from cancer. Funeral Mass, 11:00 a.m., Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicville by Reverend Andrew Kelly. Friends may call Sunday, from 4:00 until 7:30 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. The Wake service starts at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, in the chapel, by Celebrant Mary Morgan. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicville at a later date. Alberta is survived by her brother Darrell of Cedar Rapids, two sisters: Marilyn Rekemeyer, Mechanicsville and Eunice (William) Mahalic of Wichita, Kansas, and three nephews and two nieces. Preceding Alberta in death were her parents, Adelbert and Bertha Marie Fisher Reid, two brothers and a sister: Charles, John, and Theresa Reid, who died in infancy, and a brother-in-law Dale Rekemeyer. Alberta was born April 26, 1933 in rural Mechanicsville. She graduated at the age of 16, in 1950, from Mechanicsville High School, and immediately went to work for the Mechanicsville Bank and Trust Company. Alberta served on the Board of Directors for the Lisbon Bank and Trust Company, retiring as Vice-President, to take care of her elderly mother who died in 1997. Sharing the Christmas spirit was extremely important to Alberta. She was known for her elaborate Christmas decorations and lighting displays. Who can forget the beautiful pet Peacocks Alberta raised on their farm. A memorial fund has been established.
