Donald J. Erenberger, 82, of Martelle, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 from a brief illness, at the V.A. Medical Center, Iowa City, surrounded by his children. A visitation will be held Friday from 5-7:30 p.m., at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel, by the Reverend James Langley. Burial 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Surviving Don are his four children: Sandi (Lyle) Hanna, Mount Vernon, Jim, Garberville, California, JoAnn (Bob) Sebetka, Solon, and Kris (Alan) Johanns, La Mesa, California. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Kevin, Kim Ryan, Brandon, Liz, Jessi, Kamryn and eleven great grandchildren. Hi brothers Vernon (Kay), Cedar Rapids, Kenny, Cedar Rapids and Bob (Bev) of Marion, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Don in death was his wife Ruth of 59 years, his parents, and a grandson Aaron Hanna. Don was born July 24, 1926 near Ely, the son of Joseph and Lillian. He attended school in Ely, then served in the U.S. Navy. He married Ruth Mallie on February 4, 1948 and began farming. Tending to his farm was a passion. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and boating with family and friends. After his wife's passing he was a resident of the Solon Nursing Care Center, where he enjoyed the activities, and company of others. The family would like to thank the staff of the Solon Nursing Care Center for their love and compassion. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
