Doris P. Chapin Mallie

Doris P. Chapin Mallie, 84 of Mount Vernon, died Friday, October 17, 2008 at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha, from a long illness. Visitation for Doris will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices Mount Vernon. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday (10-20-08) in the funeral home by the Reverend Lori Wunder. The burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Surviving Doris are her husband of sixty-two years, Lloyd; two sons: Steven (Linda) of Hiawatha and Wayne (Ann) of Robins, and a daughter Carol (Marty Feldmann) Hansen of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren: Sara (John) Lund of Sommerville, Massachusetts, Nicole Mallie of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kristin (Chad) Phillippe of Maplewood, Minnesota, Andrew Hansen of Cedar Rapids; two great grandchildren: Aiden Hansen and Brennen Phillippe; one brother Robert (Mary Lee) Chapin of Tripoli; three sisters: LaVera Benzine of Janesville, Iowa, Beth Lovejoy of Waverly, and Lorraine (Garth) Lovejoy of Mason City. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Marillyn Chapin, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Doris in death were a sister Winifred (Les) Moehlis; a brother John Chapin; and a granddaughter Amanda Mallie. Doris was born April 20, 1924 in Tripoli, the daughter of Myron and Minifred Barr Chapin. Doris graduated from Tripoli High School in 1942. Shortly after graduating, Doris moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Northwest Airlines installing wire harnesses in B24 and B25 bombers. In 1945, Doris returned to Tripoli to the family farm. On October 13, 1946, she married Lloyd Mallie in Tripoli. The couple farmed in rural Mount Vernon for forty-four years until retiring in 1990 when they built a new home on the farm. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon. Doris was a member of the Social Circle Club of Linn Township, and bowled with the Wednesday Afternoon Ladies' League for many years. Doris loved traveling, country music, and dancing. Her greatest love was her family. Memorials in Doris honor may be donated to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, 325 18th Avenue, Hiawatha, IA 52233; or charity of donor's choice.
