Dorothy Helen Davis

Dorothy Helen Klaus Davis, 92, of Anamosa, formerly of Mechanicsville, died Monday December 7, 2009 in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids from a sudden illness. Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2009 in the Anamosa United Methodist Church by the Rev. Laurie Riley. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon and for one hour prior to the funeral service in the Church. Burial in Zion Cemetery, Colesburg. Surviving Dorothy are her husband of sixty three years Robert; a daughter Nancy (Dennis) Mulford of Anamosa; a daughter-in-law Sharon of Marion; and four grandchildren: Sara Mulford of Leavenworth, Kansas and Tim (Mika) Mulford of Columbia, Missouri; Brian Davis and Christine Davis both of Cedar Rapids; and two great grandchildren: Dylan Davis and Paige Mulford. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents and her son Steven. Dorothy was born October 26, 1917 at Colesburg, the daughter of Erwin and Florence Rolfing Klaus. She graduated from Colesburg Consolidated School and from Iowa State College with degrees in Institution Management and Dietetics. Dorothy worked in the Food Service Department at Hillsdale College in Michigan and the Y.M.C.A. Cafeteria in Chicago. She married her college sweetheart Robert Davis after he returned from the service in 1946. She was a lifelong, faithful member of various United Methodist Churches, United Methodist Women's groups, garden club, Mount Vernon Chapter of P.E.O., and a 4-H leader for many years. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She had a tremendous love for her family and was dedicated to their well-being.   2. I work at Sorg Pharmacy in Marion, Iowa and had the pleasure of serving Mr. and Mrs. Davis for many years. They were two of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of serving. Mr. Davis, Harriett and I think of you often and at this time of your loss we will be thinking of you.

It was such a pleasure to know her through the Kenwood Park Methodist Church, and then to see both of you occasionally at Village Place. Bob, you and Dorothy were always such inspirations as warm, friendly, caring, smiling Christians! God bless you with happy memories of this lovely lady.

  6. Bob and family, It’s been a long time since we were all back in Colesburg but I have many fond memories of your family. Dorothy was always a very kind and caring lady. The last time I saw the two of you was in Mt. Vernon – you were walking at the gym.
