I am deeply sorry for your loss. I never got the honor to ride the bus with vernie!!! However he was always there for the sports teams as we went on to state. He had a heart of gold and our community lost a great one. Rest in Peace Vernon.
Vernie and Marie were quite the couple. They were fantastic people who cared about the kids of North Cedar. Rest in peace. Rich Hobart
I’m sorry to hear about Vernie’s passing. I remember when Vernie or Marie used to haul livestock for my dad ( Scoot ) and my brother Jim. I also had the chance to ride with them a few times too, either in their trucks or on the school bus. I’m sure that God needed another bus driver to watch over the kids. Rest in peace.
My condolences on the passing of a wonderful man. I remember him and Marie from the days of hauling livestock for my folks, and then I was one of the many children he picked up and took to school. My children also had the opportunity to enjoy Vernie’s driving up until his retirement. He will be greatly missed by many and was a great man all around. May he Rest in Peace and meet up with Marie once again!
Vernie was my 1st bus driver, driving I believe a 49 GMC & there were just a few of us farm kids left on the bus by the time I got off in the afternoon. Just before our farm house, the bus went down a hill with a bridge at the bottom & us kids discovered if we sat clear at the back & the bus went fast enough, it would bounce our behinds off the seat & give us a thrill. So naturally we sat at the back & as the bus went down the hill we would chant “GIVE US A BUMP VERNIE”, which he often did with a big grin in the mirror. Nowdays, that would probably be taboo. Us kids all loved Vernie.
