Carolyn "Carol" J. Brenneman 76, of Lisbon died at St Lukes Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Friday September 20, 2013. Funeral services will take place at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon chapel on Tuesday, September 23rd 2013 at 10:00 a.m. by pastor Bill Nissen. Burial will follow at Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00pm to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving Carol are two daughters: Doreen Conley of Lisbon and Susan (James) Otto of Oskaloosa; five grandchildren: Shelly (Kevin) Wells, Joshua (Staci) Siddell, Kendra Siddell, Jennifer Moore, and Christine (Wes) Strickler; ten great-grandchildren: Kaysi, Aryn, Abby, Adam, Braydin, Maddox, Elliana, Jayce, Jenna and Elijah. three sisters and two brothers and her best friend, Helen Gray. Preceding Carol in death were her parents and her husband of fifty years, Dale. Carol was born January 25th 1937, in Knoxville the oldest child of George and Doris Nicholson Israel and step-mother Pearl "Copper" Israel. Carol worked in the family restaurant and growing up she cared for her younger siblings. She married Dale on August 11, 1956 in Newton and later settled in Lisbon where they raised their family. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. Carol worked at St. Luke's Hospital for eleven years. She faithfully volunteered and was a board member for the Lisbon-Mt. Vernon Ambulance Service for 27 years. In 2002 she received the TV-9, Nine Who Care award. She and Dale enjoyed traveling, playing Cribbage, square dancing and cooking. She belonged to TOPS, Women's Legion Auxiliary, and the Mt. Vernon Bowling League. One of Carol's greatest joys was nurturing her family. She impacted the lives of many people, serving her community and loving her family and friends. In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be made to the Lisbon-Mt. Vernon Ambulance Service.
