Jack W. Weldon, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Northbrook Manor, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by American Legion Post 727. Survivors include his daughter, JoAnne Fickel of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Steve Luense of Marion; grandchildren, Bryan and his wife, Stephanie, Jaimee and her husband, Phillip, and Andrew; great grandchildren, Josh, Nate, Jack, Ellery, Chloe, and Hope. Jack was born September 6, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Julia (McDonald) Weldon. He served in the US Air Force during World War II and attained the rank of sergeant. Jack was proud of his service to his country and enjoyed the Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. several years ago. On February 5, 1946, he married Julia Kopecky in Cedar Rapids. Jack worked as an assembler at Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1982. He will be remembered for his Irish wit and for always having a story or a joke to share. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Marge; granddaughter, Cory; brothers, Walter and Ed; and sisters, Mae, Dorothy, and Julia.
I remember when we were very little and my Grandpa and Grandma Weldon were always excited when Great Uncle Jack came to visit. I am sure they are again very excited to have you with them for a visit.
My sincere condolences to the family of Jack; may he rest in Peace & have a happy Eternity. I did not know him other than seeing him in Church, but my late husband, “Deacon Jerry” did know him pretty well & would speak of him often & with a good deal of respect for him. Uncle Jack was always very kind to us , I wish we could have seen more of him through the years , I ran into him and Julia at a cafe in north liberty about 1994 , I recondized him right away because he looked a lot like grandpa walter , they where rather shocked because they had not seen me for some time when I was younger , we had a great chat , love ya jack
