Emeline C. Steichen

Emeline C. Steichen, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Winslow House Care Center, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Mark Osterhaus. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include a son, Ronald (Judy) Steichen of Walker; three daughters, Darlene (Robert) Dawson of Marion, Charlene (Tom) Monaghan of Mission Viejo, California, and Kathlene Wright of Del Ray Beach, Florida; two daughters-in-law, Marlene Steichen of Cedar Rapids and Cris Steichen of West Palm Beach, Florida; 14 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren. Emeline was born August 6, 1915, in Petersburgh, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Budden) Lentner. She married Mathias Steichen on January 6, 1935, in Petersburgh, Iowa. He died in 1994. She was a homemaker and also had worked for Collins Radio and Sun Mart Grocery. Emeline was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sons, James and Patrick; four great grandchildren; three brothers; and four sisters. Memorials may be directed to Winslow House Care Center or Amenity Hospice.

She was a wonderful woman in my eyes.I have injoyed the times that I visited her with Marlene and Debbie.She was a kind hearted woman that told me information that I never new.I will miss her and now God will make her safe and happy with those in heaven at this time.Gods Peace be with her children and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Love David Earl Lentner.Let Peace Be with all of us.

  6. We all share in the loss of your Mother. I met her in 1967 and enjoyed doing her hair on and off for the last 42 years. I enjoyed hearing of the things she liked to do and of her card playing times she could beat Ron. She enjoyed the times she spent with her children and her birthday parties. She will be greatly missed by all and I enjoyed her as a friend. My sympathies are with you all.
