Valon Robert Souchek, 61, of Anamosa, died Thursday, October 24, 2013. Family and friends will gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be at Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his sons, Rod (Heather) Souchek of Bellevue, Nebraska, Ben Souchek of Cedar Rapids, and Kris Souchek of Spirit Lake, Iowa; father, Donald Souchek of Monticello; sisters, Jan (Meryl) Hartung of Mount Vernon, Iowa and Joan (Rick) Winegardner of Norfolk, Virginia; two grandchildren, Jacob and Jalyn; and nieces Allison Winegardner of Seattle, Washington and Natalie (Derek) Domaleski of Chicago, Illinois. Valon was born October 28, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Donald and Marie (Strackbein) Souchek. He graduated from Washington High School in 1969, and then went on to graduate from Kirkwood Community College. Valon worked as a machinist for Goss Graphics for 25 years. Valon was dedicated to his family, especially his three sons. He enjoyed spending time with his many dogs and cats, fishing, drawing, and making people laugh with his jokes and pranks. Valon had a passion for cooking and serving up delicious meals for family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, and infant sister, Gail Souchek. Memorials may be directed to the family.
