Stanley R. Nelson, 83, of Center Point, passed away peacefully at this home on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Family and friends will gather to remember Stanley from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Stanley was born on June 1, 1930, on the Winneshiek County farm where he grew up and farmed. As a young man he worked for area farmers. Stanley entered the US Army during the Korean Conflict. During his service he once was a guard for Marilyn Monroe and also worked on atomic bomb testing is Nevada. He was also stationed in Virginia and Washington. Stanley was a member of the American Legion. He met the loved of his life, Kay Lang, after he returned home to farm. They married September 5, 1965, and moved to Cedar Rapids to work for Collins Radio. He then went to work for the City of Cedar Rapids Sewer Maintenance department where retired from on December 14, 1990, after 20 years of service. Stanley spent his retirement on his farm playing with his tractors. Stanley is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kay; his brother, Earnest Topness of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Ethel Quandahl of Decorah, Iowa, and Carol Ann Bullerman of Burr Oak, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Halse; sister, Madonna Mathison; brothers-in-law, Allen Quandahl and Gerald Bullerman; and sister-in-law, Darlene Topness.
