Lloyd 'Gene' E. Houke, 58, of Victor, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at his daughter's home on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Funeral: 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. William B. Harnish. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville. Survivors include his sons, Shane, Sharden, Demirr, Briden, and Hevon Houke; his daughters, Milena Galliano, Minea Nanez, Shemarri, Shuron, and Tyleia Houke; a brother, Edward Houke; sisters, Carol Cripe, Rose McVeigh, Charlotte Cummings, Gloria Kennedy; and Kathy Hanlon; and 20 grandchildren. Gene was born October 29, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edward and Irene (Comried) Houke. He married Marveena Drew in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She died in 2001. Gene worked as a union pipefitter/welder for over 20 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening, but his true passion was his love of music. Gene was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Virginia Edaburn and Ellen Leonard; and a granddaughter, Nevaeh. Memorials for Gene may be directed to the funeral home.
My sympathy to all of you. I know how hard it was for Briden here in Victor as your father fought this cancer, as it surely was for all of you. I hope it comforts you to know that now he is done with all the pain.
