Elizabeth 'Liz' Grother, 55, lost her courageous battle with breast cancer on Saturday, July 2, 2011. Our Lord has opened up the gates and a new angel has spread her wings. Family and friends will gather from Noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at her sister, Penny's house, 2508 140th St. NW, Swisher, Iowa. Liz was born on February 9, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Garlin and Donna (Moore) Parmer. She married Gifford Grother in 1974. From that marriage Liz and Gifford were blessed with a son, Scott. She and Scott had a special bond and he blessed her with two grandsons, Gage and Garrett. Liz filled her life with her grandsons and they were so important and special to her. She is also survived by a brother, Gary Parmer; and a sister, Penny (Chris) Marak. Liz was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Pam Slaymaker and Karen Thorn. The family extends a special thanks to Hospice of Mercy and the many close friends for their love and support during Liz's final weeks of her life. My deepest sympathy for the family. I met Liz through Karen, and Liz is the aunt of my son-in-law, Jeff Slaymaker. Liz was very friendly and out-going, and will be missed. Rest in peace, Liz, your battle is over.
I met Liz when I was growing up. Iam friends with Penny. She was always fun and gave us a bad time. Loved he being around us. God bless and I will be praying for her friends and family.
My sister was an amazing woman, never needed much in life but was always the first to give. I love ya sis and will miss you for the rest of my time. Be at peace now until we meet again!
