Leo Frank Corporon

Leo Frank Corporon, 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away September 24, 2009, surrounded by family. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Marion, Iowa. Visitation: 6 - 9 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2009, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion, Iowa. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa. He was born December 19, 1935 in Atkins, Iowa, to the late Frank and Frieda (Kerkman) Corporon. Leo graduated from high school in Marion, Iowa, and received his BS in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University. In high school and college, he ran Varsity Track and Cross Country, and held many state records. Leo married Meredith 'Skip' Reed March 22, 1958, and together they had three children. His expansive career took him all over the world, working for J.I. Case, Clark Equipment and Detroit Diesel Allison, where he designed/developed the transmission for the new M1 battle tank for the U.S. Army. After retiring he began his own business, 'Leo's Limo & Taxi Service'. In January of 1989, he married Corinne Nichols in Indianapolis. Leo is survived by his wife, Corinne; children, Steven (Sarah) Corporon, Ketchikan, Alaska; Sheri (Douglas) Brunner, Prior Lake, Minnesota; and Jon (Aporn) Corporon, Freeport, Illinois; grandsons, Weston, Niles, Merek, and Brandon Corporon, Robert, Russell and Michael Brunner; siblings, Timothy (Ruth), and Max (Maggie) Corporon, and Edith (Lewis) Pearson; and stepdaughters, Susan, Ruth, Catherine and Sandra. His first wife, Meredith; and grandsons, Jonathan, Jaeden, and Payton Corporon, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions in Leo's honor may be directed to Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, 1000 13th St., Marion, Iowa 52302.

  2. My Dad was a big man who had a big heart and a big personality and he was truly larger than life. He also had a strong faith and after a very long and at times difficult journey, he is now resting and at peace in his Heavenly home with his Savior. I was so blessed to have Leo as my dad because he raised me in the Christian faith and although I am sad, I am also comforted and reassured by the hope and promise of Eternal Life together in Heaven. I love you, Daddy.

    Jack and I would come for the services tomorrow, but I am scheduled to Mayo for lymphoma bloodwork and CT scan. I would so love to see all of you, but it is so hard to rescedule these ap’ts. I will be thinking of you and praying for you tomorrow. Love you!

  4. Sorry to hear about Leo. I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Leo But if he s
    is like the Corporan’s I have met and went to school with He had to be one find person. They were always interested in how everyone they knew were doing.Found out too late about Leo’s passing so I missed his funneral.Knowing his dad,”very nice man” bothers & sister Are fun people to be around. My thought and prayers are with all who were close to Leo.
