Bill was born June 28, 2948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He carried a paper route, stoked furnaces, and worked at the Legion Bowling Alley, where he was an avid bowler participating in many leagues and tournaments throughout his life. He graduated from Washington High School in 1966, becoming employed at Wilson/Farmstead Meat Packing Plant. He served in the US Army from 1967 - 1970 as a medic in Vietnam. Bill then returned to the Wilson/Farmstead plant and also ran a detasseling crew. He took an early retirement in 1989 to attend Kirkwood Community College in the waste water treatment program. After graduating, he worked in Kansas City, and then returned to Iowa working at PMX, the City of North Liberty, and then the City of Cedar Rapids, retiring in 2003. Throughout Bill's life he loved the outdoors, but the love of his life was fishing and spending many summers around the Midwest and Canada. He loved football and baseball, coaching Little League and Babe Ruth as a volunteer for many years. He also played softball. Bill had an infectious laugh and smile that gave joy to all. He loved to talk and meet new people. He accumulated many friends and everyone loved him. His alias name was 'Bay' and many friends called him that thanks to his sister, Suzy. He will be missed by family and many friends. A special thank you to all the hospice staff and friends for their support and love.
Bill will be deeply missed and always loved. Many prayers and thoughts for Billy, Dawn, Marlene and the rest of the family
I knew Bill from the pharmacy I work at. He had a great joy for life no matter how he felt that day. One day he brought us in the EASY button. He thought it was great because we made his life so easy, when in fact he made are day better with a story. We will miss him.
Marlene, Pam told me about your hubby’s death. I’m so sorry for your loss. Your special memories of him will keep him close to your heart.

BBill will be missed by many. He was a very giving and gracious man with an incredible spirit and touched many lives. I, for one, am a better person for having known Bill. My thoughts and prayers are with family. His smile will be missed.
I will always have a special place in my heart for “Uncle Bill” I have so many fond memories of him that I can treasure. I remember Bill coaching my brothers’ baseball team and his Annual Fishing tournament at the WPC. Bill talked me into fishing and I caught a fish and ended up getting a first place trophy for it. I will miss “Uncle Bill” but I know that he is in a better place now. I’m truly sorry for your loss Marlene. Peace be with you.

So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. Although we didn’t know Bill personally, Marlene was a special friend who worked with me at the Post Office.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Gosh, are we ever gonna miss you!!! I already miss your silly sense of humor:) I’ll miss listening to you and Suzy “bickering” back and forth. And I’ll never forget how involved you were with trying to help Mariah find her first job. Every time we’d see you, you’d fill her in on another place you knew that was hiring. You were one of the greatest men I’ve ever had the pleasure to know, and I’m proud to call you my uncle. I love you very much. May you rest in peace.
Marlene, you have my sympathy. I read about your loss in the CR Gazette. Years ago I worked with you at Voc Rehab in the Mullin Bldg downtown CR on the floor below you along with Sharon Pillard, Kathy Reside, Gary Widdel, etc. I was originally from the Postville area. I moved back to the area around 1990 and work in one of the banks in Postville (I live near Decorah). I’m thinking of you at this difficult time and take care, Lisa.
I love you soo much! You will be missed so much! I’ll always rememeber how you tried to help me get a job. Every time I seen you you had at least 3 different job applications 🙂
i love you<3
I remember Bill as Wesleys’ big brother! He used to play softball with us Glubka boys, down at Sinclair park behind the packing house. I always remember him because he was a lefty. My prayers to the family.
God Speed to you all. I knew Dawn in middle school. My thoughts are with your family.
I worked with Bill at Water Pollution in CR. I have to say he is one of the best people I’ve ever worked with.
He was always fun and tackled any job with humor and honesty.
You’ll be missed.
