James 'Jim' Zahorik Jr., 49, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord Sunday January 22, 2017, after a year-long battle with stomach cancer. Memorial Celebration of Jim's life: 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Maranatha Bible Church, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion.
James Michael Zahorik Jr. was born October 26, 1967, in Everett, Washington, to James Sr. and Patricia (Longshore) Zahorik. Left to cherish Jim's memory include his loving wife, Jennifer whom he married March 10th, 2001; his three daughters Samantha, Brittani (fianc Dustin Hupp), Kaitlyn Zahorik; and son James 'Roman' Zahorik. Jim had three young grandchildren Caleb Voelker, Natalie Voelker, and Hannah Hupp. Jim also left behind his mother Tish; a loving father, Jim 'Moose' Kuykendall, the man who raised him like his own; and stepmother Char Zahorik whom was also very special to Jim. He is also survived by his brothers John and Mike Zahorik; and sister Amanda (Jeff) Henkle. Jim leaves his dear cousin and brother in Christ Randy (Sheila) Stewart. Also surviving are his mother and father in laws, Charlene (Steve) Baker and Alan (Georgeanne) Cassidy-Wescott. Jim was preceded in death by his brother Andrew Lee Kuykendall and his father James M. Zahorik Sr.
After his diagnosis in February of 2016, Jim did what he knew best and fought it head on with all he had. While continuing to work as an Operations Manager at Old Dominion Freight Line, Jim also remodeled his home, and bought a hot rod to enjoy with his sweetheart. He will be remembered for his heart of gold and big smile. Jim was a hard-working and loving family man. He loved to go camping at the lake, spend time with his family and pets, especially his little dog Lucy.
I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers…
Sincerely,
Kelly Vulysteke
