Carroll E. Miller

Carroll E. Miller, 65, of 626 Broderick Dr. N.E., Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mount Vernon, died in his home Saturday May 20, 2006 from a lengthy illness. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday (5-24-06) at the Community Bible Church Mount Vernon by Pastor Andy Majorins. The family will greet friends 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial Lisbon Cemetery with military rites. Surviving Carroll are his wife Janet at home; two sons: Raymond of Thornton, and John (Diane) of Springville; a daughter Dawn (Bill) Biederman of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren: Elizabeth, Billy, and Nicole; five brothers: Robert Douglas, Don, and Merle all of Oskaloosa, Bill of Lombard, Illinois, and Harold of Springfield, Missouri; a sister Bonnie Roorda of Oskaloosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Raymond and Elllsworth Peterson; and a sister Dorothy Sisco. Carroll was born November 21, 1940 at Leighton, the son of Raymond and Helen Douglas Miller. He served with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Passumpsic as a boiler technician from 1958 until his discharge in 1961. Following his military service, Carroll commenced a career with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as a Park Manager that spanned forty-two years. He served at Lake Keomah, Backbone State Park, and retired April 8, 2005, from Palisades-Kepler State Park. He married Janet Dykstra in Oskaloosa on October 22, 1966. He was a long time member of the Community Bible Church of Mount Vernon. Carroll was an avid sports fan, following the Cubs, Hawkeyes, and local sports. He enjoyed being outdoors. Carroll treasured his family, his church family, and friends. Carroll's family gratefully acknowledges the support of friends, the Community Bible Church family, as well as the wonderful care proved by the staff of Hospice of Mercy.
