Barb (Drahos) Sharp, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Heritage Specialty Care. Celebration of Life: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Church of the King, Cedar Rapids. Gathering of Family and Friends: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Survivors include her children, Ken Drahos, Karen Spading, Jenifer (Susan) Drahos, Ann Drahos, and Rebecca Drahos; grandchildren, Candice Luter, Connor and Maxwell Smith-Drahos, and Meagan Drahos, Nicholas, and Maddeline Wilson; great-granddaughter, Monet Young; siblings, Linda Drahos and John Schick; and many extended family members and friends. Barbara Eva Schick was born February 9, 1940, to Michael and Martha (Diedrich) Schick, in Stacyville, Iowa. She attended Mount Vernon High School, where she played the bass drum. She later earned her art degree from Kirkwood Community College, and especially liked doing pencil sketching and drawing. Barb enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and belonged to the Foster Grandparents Program through Cedar Rapids schools, where she was known as 'Granny Barb'. She was a free-spirited person, and was known to take road trips with no destination required, stopping to view overlooks and interesting historical landmarks. Later in life, she could be found knitting hats to donate, and listening to Life 101.9 or watching Iowa Public Television. She was preceded in death by her parents. Barb's family would like to thank the staff at Heritage and Care Initiatives Hospice for their genuine kindness and care of mom.

  1. Linda,
So sorry to hear of your sisters passing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
    Brian and Donna Novey

  2. I’m from First Assembly of God and went over to Heritage to visit Barbara’s roommate, Dorothy. I didn’t know Barb, but introduced myself, and immediately, I felt her spirit. She reminded me of a very good friend that also passed away, so it was as if I bonded to her right away. I wished she would’ve had more time on this earth, but I know God had her covered and when her time would be up. I found her to be so sweet and I just wished I could’ve known her sooner! I’m so glad she was a Christian and Loved the Lord!
    Sincerely, Mary Teegarden

  3. Sorry to hear about Barbs passing. My mom Karen and her were good friends and did a lot of stuff together in the 60’s and early 70’s when Barb and Sub lived on Hwy 94. Remember going over to there house when we were kids so remember Kenny. Karen, Ann, Jenny, and Becky when they were so young like my brothers and I. Peace and prayers to you all.
